Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is ideal for people who have healthy, un-restored teeth (fillings and crowns typically do not change color once they are set) and healthy gums. Patients with yellow tones to their teeth respond best, but cosmetic teeth whitening is not recommended for everyone. Dr. Dr. Joseph Tagliarini can help you determine which teeth whitening procedure is the best fit for your smile including:

  • Whitening toothpastes
  • Over-the-counter whitening strips
  • Whitening rinses
  • Tray-based whitening systems
  • In-office whitening

What kind of teeth whitening does Comprehensive Dental Health offer?

The best part about our cosmetic teeth whitening service is that you do not have to be stuck in our chairs to do it! Comprehensive Dental Health uses a tray-based teeth whitening system to make your smile as white and bright as possible, and it can be done from the comfort of your own home.

The tray-based tooth whitening system we use includes a mouth guard-like tray that is filled with a gel whitening solution (which contains a peroxide-bleaching agent). Since you are getting your tray from our New Haven office and not just over-the-counter, we can custom fit it to your teeth and minimize the gel’s contact with your gums. The tray is then worn for a varying period of time, which our dentist will help you determine, based on how discolored your teeth are and how white you want them to be. The time frame for wearing the tooth whitening tray can vary from a couple of hours a day to every night, for up to four weeks.

While a tray-based tooth whitening system is not the fastest way to whiten your teeth, we have found many of our patients love the results.

How long will the effects of professional teeth whitening last?

We have to remind our New Haven, CT patients that the teeth whitening process is not permanent. If you eat or drink a lot of stain-inducing foods/beverages, that “new tooth shine” can wear off in as little as month. If you avoid these foods, your teeth can stay bright and white for up to a year with no extra whitening needed.
